Unusual

I did some more thrift shopping this weekend, Goodwill had their $.99 clothing sale and I just couldn’t resist.  I always check the kids clothes, although since the new CSPCA laws passed there is never anything good.  I noticed this top right away, it was very colorful and odd.  When I looked at it closer I couldn’t believe the pattern.

thrifted fabric(Yeah, I already ripped it apart.)  Look closely, there are Russian nesting dolls, Russian buildings, cabbage roses and woven rug patterns.  The fabric is almost like a photo and to top it all off it is velour!!!

Sadly the tags had been cut out, so I have no idea what brand or even what size this top was.  The good news is I have enough for three zippered pouches.

So what do you guys think, is this a treasure or am I a bit weird?  Does anyone recognize this fabric, where is it from?

The results are in, I am one of the runners up! (read the full article from Craft here).  What did I win you ask?  A Crafty Chica bobblehead and a gift card to MakerShed!

It was really exciting to be a part of the contest, of course I wish I would have won, but I was recognized for my efforts, so yay!!!  The winner was my favorite (besides my own bag).  I love the dimension of the ruffle and the ball fringe!

Congratulations to all the other winners and thanks to all my friends for all your support.

Yesterday I stopped at the Goodwill that near my house, I hadn’t been there before, it’s a smaller store, but it really nice and everything is sorted/arranged very well.  It must have been my lucky day, I found all sorts of treasures!

The one is my favorite, this beautiful cut paper (???) picture, I snatched it up the moment I saw it.thrifted pic

It is really hard to photograph, the glass gives crazy reflections!  Here’s a better detail shot.thrifted pic detailI got all other sorts of stuff, clothes to recon, a purse, some shoes, and some extra special stuff for the 13 Days of Halloween Swap.  There was also some great chairs from the 70’s that were in great shape(I bet they spent their lives covered in plastic), I may have to go back for those.

Here’s a preview of what I’ll be working on next week.  All this stuff is getting repainted.DOD AngelsI also have a big weekend ahead of me, it’s time for Little Miss to get here own room and I need to paint everything, including the ceiling.  The kids are spending the night at my Parents house, so hopefully I will accomplish a lot, see you next week!

Always Exciting

I still get super excited to be on the front page of etsy, its only happened a few times and last night after or LNKHandmade crafty meeting I came home to a huge jump in views and hearts.  I dashed over to craftcult and find this:

heart o matic 8-10-2009The front page and the Halloween gift guide!!!!!!!!!!!!  I am so excited, front page exposure is better than almost any advertising that you can buy and it’s free!  I’m off to cut out some more cemeteries and maybe list a few new Halloween items.

No reason, he just looks like a Steve.shrunken head bag embelished The details I added were some black stitching and some color.  The pattern recommended felting, I currently do not have any felting equipment and I didn’t want to buy any, so I used sharpie markers to color in the details.shrunken head bag embelished detailHe also has wood bead eyes and bone teeth.   I think he turned out pretty gruesome.  The really great thing is that you can use him as a purse or stuff him a bit and you have a great decoration!

I’ve done it before and here is the proof:shrunken head some fullingI’ve been  working on this shrunken head bag for a couple of days.  I have fulled him a little and now I need to decide if I want to full him some more before I add the voodoo.  I will be adding some decorations to his hair and some stitching to his eyes and mouth and some jewelry.  I think once I finish everything up he should be pretty creepy.  Here’s what he looked like before, more homely than scary.shrunken head before fullingI found the pattern on ravelry, you’ll have to become a member if you want to download it, don’t worry it’s free and there are a lot of really great patterns to see!

I’m also still looking for spooky Halloween patterns, so please leave me a comment if you know where to find a good one!

It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, well at least I have, the Halloween gift guide!halloween2009giftguide There is a lot of really great stuff this year, so go check it out.  I am also excited to report that my Instant Cemetery is featured in the guide this year, Yay!!!
